Joint Event with McGill a Success!

The October 27th meeting was a landmark event for WINGS due to a record number of attendees, a high profile speaker and a chance to work with another great institute. We raised close to $2000.00 for the India Rescue Foundation through Child Care International. Marion Saint Picq gave an informative presentation about the important work that the foundation does. We were especially pleased to see so many young women interested in the presentation. Judy Norsigian's talk was informative and looked at an aspect of the problem of violence against women that is often omitted - the role of men and the most recent fight they have taken up in support of women.

Special thank to IGSF - the Institute for Gender, Sexuality, and Feminist Studies of McGill university for all their work on this event!

Thank-you to all the participants for their generous donations.

Event On Fistulas May 12th, 2011

“Walking Back to Happiness: The Addis Ababa Fistula Hospital

Our next event will address fistulas-a devastating complication of pregnancy and rape-too common in developing countries. We are excited to welcome Dr. Joyce Pickering Associate Dean Medical Education and Student Affairs, Faculty of Medicine Mcgill University, previously Director of the International Health Office Mcgill (2002-2003) and past Director of the Ethiopia Mcgill Community Health Project (1988-1992).

All funds raised from this meeting will be donated to the Canadian Network for International Surgery, an organization that promotes the delivery of essential surgical and obstetric care to the underprivileged in Africa.

In recognition of Mother’s Day we are also asking for beauty/hygiene supplies or sweet treats to be donated to Chez Doris-a wonderful women’s shelter which serves women and children in crisis in Montreal. Hopefully we can sweeten the lives of mothers and let them know they are not forgotten!
